Maybelline ist eine der bekanntesten Marken der Kosmetikbranche. Das Unternehmen wurde 1915 von Tom Lyle Williams gegründet, der den Namen von seiner Schwester Maybel ableitete.

Diese Maybel Williams trug eine Mischung aus Kohlenstaub und Vaseline auf ihre Wimpern auf, um ihnen einen dunkleren und volleren Effekt zu verleihen. Tom Lyle Williams passte die Mischung mit einem einfachen Chemiebaukasten an und verkaufte sie unter dem Namen "Lash-Brow-Ine". Zu Ehren seiner Schwester wurde das Produkt später in Maybelline umbenannt. 1917 entstand die erste Mascara, wie wir sie heute kennen. Maybelline hat sich von einem kleinen Familienunternehmen im Jahr 1915 zur Nummer 1 der Kosmetikbranche weltweit entwickelt. Maybelline gehört mittlerweile zur L’Oréal-Gruppe.
