What does a primer do for your face?

Wat doet een primer voor je gezicht?

A primer has always been that product people thought, “do I really need it?” Yes, you definitely need it! With primer, you can create a beautiful base for your makeup. No unevenness, patches, streaks, or texture after you have applied your foundation.

But how exactly does a primer work?
You should think of a primer as the foundation that holds your makeup in place all day. A primer also ensures that your makeup stays on much longer, so you don’t have to go to the toilet as often to touch it up. Primers are usually a little sticky, allowing your makeup to adhere flawlessly. In addition, a primer also creates an extra protective layer between your skin and your makeup, so your skin becomes much less irritated after wearing makeup all day. A primer also creates an even layer that you can then apply your foundation over. If your skin has a lot of texture, such as scars or wrinkles, or is simply rough, a primer can conceal it. A primer also makes it easy to apply your foundation flawlessly. So streaks from a foundation brush are a thing of the past!

Can you use a primer on all skin types?
Of course! There are all kinds of primers, so there will definitely be one that suits your skin type. It is therefore important that you choose the right one, so it’s a case of trial and error.

For dry skin:
It is important that you use a moisturizing primer, so your skin stays nourished and hydrated while wearing your makeup.

For oily skin:
It is important that you use a mattifying primer, so your skin will not produce extra oils, keeping your makeup beautifully matte all day and preventing your skin from becoming irritated.

For combination skin:
Testing the right primers is extremely important. This is because there is no single primer that is perfect for combination skin. Every combination skin is different, so you may need to use two types of primers.

For mature skin:
A primer with silicone in it is the best choice, as it will make your skin incredibly smooth. Mature skin is less elastic and needs more nourishment than younger skin. It is therefore also important that you use a nourishing primer to keep your skin as calm as possible.
